Waterlooplein Market

Located in the old Jewish quarter of Amsterdam, the flea market on Amsterdam's Waterlooplein is a delight for seekers of collectibles, curiosa, second-hand clothing, body jewellery and general bric-a-brac. It is surprisingly large with 300 stalls, many with an ethnic theme, giving it a bazaar-like atmosphere. it makes an intriguing visit for all flea market enthusiasts.

At the Waterlooplein Market, you can expect to find second-hand and new clothing, records, books, curios and collectibles, art and crafts, appliances and some antiques. It is impossible to cover the full range on offer at this charming market but expect to lose yourself pouring over the huge variety of knick-knacks, or the rare books and records. Pick up a model car to add to your collection or an exotic musical instrument or even a gramophone!

While you may come away empty-handed, you may also get lucky and find something truly special. Either way, browsing through the Waterlooplein Flea market is a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a few hours during your stay in Amsterdam.

While you are in the neighbourhood, it is worth visiting Rembrandt's House, just around the corner on the Jodenbreestraat. This 17th century house in which Rembrandt lived and worked from 1639 till 1658, is also believed to be where he painted the "Night Watch". It has been wonderfully restored to reflect living conditions at the time and is a fascinating insight into his life and work.
