About Plaza Mayor
The Plaza Mayor is a symbol of Madrid missed. This vast esplanade, located in the center of the city, was begun in the seventeenth century by King Philip III, whose bronze equestrian statue carved decorated the place. Opened in 1620, is a rectangular plaza, covered by arcades.
This building was the scene in the past of many public events such as bullfights, parades, parties, theater, Inquisition trials and even executions. Under their porches, traditional stores are also a multitude of bars and restaurants.
In the square a few buildings like the Casa de la Panaderia, in which the highlights were the frescoes on the facade, and the House of the Butchers.

Beatiful square with lot of histoy behind it. Very friendly in December with the Christmas flea market. AVOID having lunch here. Prices way higher! Except on "museo del jamon". It's always a classic :)
