About Old Gate de Bisagra (Gate of Alfonso VI)
The entrance to the townIt is the only part of the Arab wall still standing.Puerta Vieja de la Bisagra is the only vestige of the Arab wall. It was the main entrance to the town and is of Moslem origins from the 9th century. Its front structure is close to the original because it was covered for many years until the new Puerta de Bisagra was reopened during the reign of Carlos V. Its facade has three horseshoe arches. The arch in the centre is raised above the adjoining ones, enveloping another horseshoe arch with lintel. The adjoining arches are pointed. It is also known as the Gate of Alfonso VI.
