About Oceanogràfic

The Oceanogràfic of the City of Arts and Sciences is the largest aquarium in Europe and it represents the major marine ecosystems on the planet. Each building is identified by the following aquatic environments: Mediterranean, Wetlands, Temperate and Tropical Seas, Oceans, Antarctic, Arctic Islands and the Red Sea, in addition to the Dolphin, with 24 million liters of water and a depth of 10.5 meters. Underwater Restaurant Building Access that welcomes visitors, highlighted by the spectacular covers designed by Felix Candela.

During the visit, and along the journey through the different facilities, we learn about behavior and lifestyle of more than 45,000 copies of 500 different species it houses. Among the species of interest, visitors can see dolphins, beluga whales, walruses, sea lions, seals, penguins, turtles, sharks, rays, sawfish, jellyfish, starfish, sea urchins, a variety of crustaceans and birds typical of areas wetlands, such as those living in the Albufera of Valencia and tropical mangroves, among other animals.

Since opening in 2003, more than 9.5 million people have visited the facilities in which they are performed throughout the year numerous outreach activities, conferences, exhibitions of various themes, conferences and courses, including projects of bioeducativos research and workshops from the beginning has been launched in Building E + I in collaboration with universities and national and international scientific organizations.

Its modern architecture, the distribution of the different buildings, the lack of visual barriers, vocation education, the large size of aquariums, special facilities such as tunnels, one with 70 meters in length, or allow visitors vaults experience a unique approach to the marine world and the rich biodiversity that keep the oceans and seas of the planet.

The Oceanogràfic of the City of Arts and Sciences is thus conceived as a natural park, a science center and informative, which contributes to the recovery of protected wildlife, encouraging visitors to its conservation message and respect for the environment , while developing specific research programs on marine science and its inhabitants.
