The Rodin Museum presents the works and collections of Auguste Rodin in a 18th century palace and park, a garden of sculptures. In the early 20th century, Rodin expressed the desire to create in Hotel Biron a museum dedicated to his works. But it was in 1916, and after three successive donations, when Rodin gave to the government the whole of their collections and personal archives, his property in Meudon and, above all, his own work, consisting of sculptures and drawings, plus the right of reproducing them. The museum opened its doors on August 4, 1919, two years after the death of Rodin. Today, this museum houses marble, bronze, plaster, wax, terracotta, ceramics and paintings along with drawings and works by other artists (Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh) from his personal collection. At the request of Rodin, one of the galleries is devoted to the work of Camille Claudel. Furthermore, it has opened a temporary exhibition space thanks to the restoration of the chapel in 2005.The hotel Biron's garden offers the visitor a splendid walk in the heart of Paris.
This beautiful museum hosted H&M's Autumn/Winter fashion show during Paris Fashion Week '13.
Come on, you gotta see at least 1 museum while in Paris. This is a good one - beautiful setting and grounds, in and out in an hour.
Located in the Hôtel Biron (where Rodin used as a workshop), is a must-visit for lovers of sculpture. This place is home to the famous The Thinker and The Kiss) Opens at 10am daily. Closed on Mondays.
Mon endroit favori et surtout le baiser, la sculpture magnifique et intemporelle. Check the garden for a romantic stroll leading to the Kiss, this timeless bronze sculpture from Rodin himself.
Not only is it mainly outdoors, but it’s crazy cool. You don’t have to give a hoot about Rodin to enjoy strolling the property’s (manicured) woods while perusing some insanely detailed statues.
Housed in the grand 18th century manor Hôtel Biron, this intimate museum and sculpture garden (especially gorgeous in the summer) gives unparalleled insight into the artist’s life and work.
Romantic Paris at his best : Either inside or in the beautiful gardens, hold hands and snap !
Rodin's sculptures that come alive at this smaller museum, which used to be his home. The grounds surrounding the museum are truly spectacular so be sure to take a picnic.
Rodin's tomb is underneath The Thinker. Check out 'Hell's Gate' & 'The 3 Shades' while you're in the gardens. Very impressive.
