About Mercato del Porcellino
Mercato Nuovo or Mercato del Porcellino is one of the most famous markets in Florence. Its name comes from a small sculpture of a pig or boar that lies in the market and whose story is a myth in the city.
Located in the heart of Florence, it is the hub of shopping for most of the tourists visiting the city. You can find all kinds of souvenirs and many objects made of leather.
A curiosity is that the soil is the "scandal stone" where insolvent debtors were punished during the Renaissance Florence.
