It is perhaps one of the most prominent symbols associated with the War of Independence of the United States. This bell is one of the great symbols of independence, abolition of slavery character of the nation and freedom of the United States and has been used as an international icon of freedom. With its most famous ringing, on July 8, 1776 called upon the citizens of Philadelphia for the reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The inscription on the Liberty Bell reads as follows:

FREEDOM PROCLAIMED IN ALL PARTS OF ALL THE LAND TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF THIS LEV. XXV X.
