About Fuente de Cibeles
It is a symbol of Madrid. King Carlos III ordered its construction in the late eighteenth century. Designed by the architect Ventura Rodriguez, the font is carved in marble and depicts the goddess Cibeles on a throne on a chariot pulled by lions, while in her hands she holds a scepter and keys of the city.
The source, venue of the great triumphs of Real Madrid Football Club, was originally situated at the beginning of the Paseo de Recoletos, and it was in 1895 when the City Council moved into place today. This sculpture, eight and 32 meters in diameter, has many important buildings around it, as the Bank of Spain, the Buenavista Palace, the Palace of Linares (now House of America), and the palace Communications.
