The Camp Nou (Catalan name means "new countryside", pronounced [kam? N? W]), often also referred to, erroneously, as Camp Nou, the stadium of Football Club Barcelona. At the time of its inauguration in 1957, was named the FC Barcelona Stadium (When the stadium was under construction, the 50's, was to be called "Joan Gamper stage, but the initiative did not take effect. It was rumored then-president of Barcelona, Francesc Miró-Sans, was hopeful that the stadium would bear his own name, as in the case of the Bernabeu in Madrid. The problems of the last phase of Miró-Sans presidency reaffirmed the name popularly had begun to be given, Camp Nou.), but in 2001 officially adopted the current name, which is the name under which it has always been popularly known.
With its current capacity of 98,787 spectators, it is the football stadium with more capacity in Europe and tenth in the world. It is also, therefore, the largest stadium of those identified with Elite category according to UEFA.
